Rio Tinto’s engineers Calibre Global engaged ATC to design, engineer and manufacture a 6 metre diameter, 100 tonne capacity turntable project for a mine site in the Pilbara.
Some complexity for our engineering team included the requirement to install the unit on the ground, hoist the unit from four points, locate on four columns and align between preinstalled cleats and rail line.
When set with a challenge like that, we go above and beyond to deliver. The turntable project ultimately reduced the loss of production during crusher maintenance period from 24 hours down to 15 minutes. The turntable has been operating since 2006 with 100% availability. Due to the success of the project ATC was engaged to supply a second unit in 2012.
